David Gallichan the celebrated organ restorer will give a short talk on the intricacies of restoring the church organ at Saint Dubricius, Hentland, the most challenging job of his career. He will be assisted by Kevin Holmes, previously organist at Plymouth Cathedral and former Director of Music at the Birmingham Oratory who will give a short recital showcasing the qualities of the newly restored instrument. This previously hand-pumped organ in the chancel, made by J W Walker was installed in 1869 but deteriorated over the years. After successful fundraising the organ and the surrounding decorative plaster has now been restored and can now be seen and heard in all its glory. The ancient and very local custom of distributing Pax Cakes on Palm Sunday every year, with the blessing of Peace and Good Neighbourhood can now take place to the accompaniment, thanks to David Gallichan, of the organ.
